Retirement Planning and Financial Expert, Brian Fricke, Exposes Hidden Investment Fees In Annuities and Mutual Funds

Monday, February 14th, 2011

Brian Fricke, financial and retirement planning expert, writes about hidden investment fees for annuities and urges investors carefully evaluate their investment fees.

Orlando, Fla. – February 14, 2011 – Brian Fricke, CFP founder of Financial Management Concepts and “Worry Free Retirement” author/expert, recently published an article on his website titled “Hidden Investment Fees…Exposed!” where he explains that even if your financial advisor says that he is being paid by the annuity company, that money actually comes out of investors pockets in the form of hidden fees.

“Have you ever heard a stock broker, financial advisor, maybe even an insurance agent say something like, “Don’t worry the investment company pays me, or the annuity company, or the mutual fund, or the insurance company pays me, so you don’t have to?”  That’s the answer one of our clients got from their former financial advisor when they asked a real simple question.  They had just bought an annuity from their prior financial advisor.  And their question simply was, “how are you getting paid?” The answer? “Don’t worry; the annuity company is going to pay me.”  You might not see anything wrong with that.  But I sure do.” wrote Brian Fricke.

“We all know there is no such thing as a free lunch.  So where is the annuity company getting the money to pay this advisor? From you.  They might camouflage it and hide it, but at the end of the day, bottom line, that money is coming out of your pocket,” continued Brian.

Brian goes on to give some advice on what you can do about it.  “Since you’re going to pay the fee one way or the other, my advice is that you stop the bleeding now.  By that I mean, your best move is probably to go ahead and pay the surrender charge and move on to a lower cost investment vehicle.  You could put the same $100,000 into low cost, no load index mutual funds… Think of all that extra money that could be in your pocket instead of sending it off to an insurance, annuity, or mutual fund company.”

Retirement Planning and Financial Expert, Brian Fricke, Highlights Elite Professionals Group Success Story

Thursday, November 18th, 2010

Brian Fricke, financial and retirement planning expert, recently put together an Elite Professionals Group to eliminate the hassle and worry out of finding competent and trusted professional advisors – and a success story has already occurred.

Orlando, Fla. – November 18, 2010 – Brian Fricke, CFP founder of Financial Management Concepts and the author of “Worry Free Retirement,” recently initiated an Elite Professionals Group consisting of “Best in Class” professionals from various industries.  The purpose of this group is to have a trusted and competent pool of professionals that can be recommended to his clients on an as needed basis.

One of the members of the Elite Professionals Group is Orlando-based realtor and training expert, Andy Tolbert. (http://www.AndyTolbert.com)  Recently, Andy wrote about how one of her foreclosure interviews led to a reunion of a family that had been out of touch for several years!  Below is an excerpt from Andy’s blog post:

Wow, this is a story you probably don’t hear every day.  Yesterday I was contacted by email by someone stating she was a relative of someone I had interviewed about losing her house.  Through some back searching I found the article she was referring to, and it wasn’t me that had interviewed the lady, I just happened to be interviewed in the same article.  I never met her relative.  In several emails back and forth though, I explained that I had never met her, but did a quick Google search and sent her a link with some local contact info including an email address and place of employment (all public records here… not disclosing any secret info!).

Well, today I just got this email:

Andy

You have just been used by God to help two sisters fine each other and to discover that there are two more sisters My daughter and her sister are so happy right now it is unbelievable. They are both Managers and have two children thanks thanks and more thanks

My The Lord bless your life and family

Pastor Nissi

Isn’t that unbelievable?

Out of the tragedy of losing her home, a single mom and her 2 kids are now reunited with their family because of the story that was written about her.

Brian points out that this kind of wonderful event is a testament to the power of networking and is one of the main reasons for organizing the Elite Professionals Group.

Members of the Elite Professionals Group include wholesale automobile purchases, insurance experts, mortgage expertise, business, estate and elder law, health and medicare supplement insurance expertise, and many more.

“Members of the Elite Professionals Group, meet monthly to keep each other informed of our respective areas of expertise so we can take exceptional care of our clients now and into the future,” remarked Brian.

Retirement Planning and Financial Expert, Brian Fricke, Discusses Asset Allocation Myths

Thursday, November 4th, 2010

Brian Fricke, financial and retirement planning expert, publishes article citing asset allocation myths investors should avoid.

Orlando, Fla. – November 4, 2010 – Brian Fricke, CFP founder of Financial Management Concepts and the author of “Worry Free Retirement,” recently published an article on his website titled “Asset Allocation Myths You Need To Avoid ” where he takes a closer look at mistakes that could cost you big money when it comes to your financial security and a worry free retirement.

On spreading your money around, Brian writes, “This seems to be a very popular philosophy or strategy held by just about everybody in the financial world.  But I believe that approach has serious flaws. Just look back to the bear market of 2000-2003 and what happened there. I remember telling clients ‘don’t worry, rarely does the market decline three years in a row.’  Well, guess what happened in the third year of that bear market? The market went down again and the losses were equal to the prior two years combined! So that was evidence enough for me to figure out that this theory of asset allocation, strategic allocation, pie chart investing, always have a certain percentage in US and foreign stocks and bonds and so forth is flawed.”

On investing in multiple mutual funds for diversification, Brian explains, “I meet a lot of people who think they’re diversified because they have money in 10, 15, 20, even 30 different mutual funds. But when we drill down into the mutual fund holdings, more often than not we find that they’re concentrated in one area of the market — usually large-company US – with little or no exposure in international or a small-company.  This is fine if the demand for stocks is focused on large-company US, but why on earth would you want to have most of your account allocated to large-company US if the demand, and therefore increasing prices and higher profit opportunities were in areas like, say, international or technology?”

Retirement Planning and Financial Expert, Brian Fricke, Explains How Surviving Spouses Can Avoid Tax Mistakes

Monday, October 4th, 2010

Brian Fricke, financial and retirement planning expert, writes about some common tax mistakes made by surviving spouses, and offers ways to avoid them.

Orlando, Fla. – October 4, 2010 – Brian Fricke, CFP founder of Financial Management Concepts and “Worry Free Retirement” author/expert, recently published an article on his website titled“Surviving Spouses – Don’t Make This Mistake And Overpay Your Taxes” where he explains how the death of a spouse can cost the surviving spouse big money in the form of overpaying on their taxes.

“You probably know that if you inherit an asset and then turn around and sell it, you’re only taxed on the increased value from the date that you inherited the asset. For instance, if you inherit a stock worth $100 from a friend or family member and they only paid $10 for it, you can turn around and sell the stocks at $100 and pay zero tax on the $90 profit!” wrote Brian Fricke.

The article goes on to show how mistakes are sometimes made using this $100 stock as an example:

“Say you and your spouse buy stock in a joint account for $10. Now it’s worth $100. Your spouse passes away and you want to sell the stock. What are your profits for tax purposes?   If you’re like a lot of people, you instinctively remember what you paid for the stock –$10.  And when you report that profit you report it as $90. Which is wrong!” remarked Brian.

“You would actually be over-reporting your taxable income.  Why?  Because you haven’t adjusted your tax basis (cost) as a surviving spouse.  When you stop and think about it, you actually inherited a portion of that stock. You owned 50% of the stock, but your spouse owned 50% of the stock,” continued Brian.  “What this boils down to is the fact that you get a stepped-up basis on your spouse’s interest in the asset.  For that same $100 stock, you should adjust your cost to $55. Meaning you would only pay tax on a $45 profit.”

Retirement Planning and Financial Expert, Brian Fricke, Discusses Current State of Economic Recovery

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

Brian Fricke, financial and retirement planning expert, explains the current state of the US economy and the disconnect between economic numbers and local economic confidence.

Orlando, Fla. – September 3, 2010 – Brian Fricke, CFP founder of Financial Management Concepts and “Worry Free Retirement” author/expert, recently published an article on his website titled “Is The Economy Really Recovering?” where he explains the reasons that when one looks at the big picture, things look like they’re improving, but on the local level it still may feel like things haven’t gotten much better at all.

“Why is it that we see these reports that corporate profits are up by billions and billions of dollars, but on an individual basis it still feels like the economy isn’t recovering?” Brian asks.

“The easiest answer, of course, is that unemployment is still above 9%. Recessions typically last nine months, but this one we’ve just gone through lasted over two years. But the bigger deal could be what some economists are calling a two-tier recovery. Meaning large corporations are feeling a lot of improvement, while small business owners and individuals are not,” Brian continued.

The article goes on to explain how large businesses have access to capital that small business do not. Brian writes, “If a big business needs to borrow money to buy supplies or increase their inventory, they can go to the bond market and access the capital they need. But if you’re a small business owner, you can’t borrow money from the bond market. You’ve got to go to your local bank — and odds are the local bank is still dealing with underwater real estate loans.”

Retirement Planning Expert, Brian Fricke, Discusses Pros and Cons of Early Mortgage Payoff

Friday, July 30th, 2010

Brian Fricke, author and retirement planning expert, explains the importance of owning your home free and clear.

Orlando, Fla. – July 30, 2010 – Brian Fricke, CFP, founder of Financial Management Concepts and “Worry Free Retirement” author/expert, recently published an article on his website titled Why You Should Own Your Home Free and Clear, where he discusses the advantages of paying off your mortgage early, as well as some of the most common arguments against early payoff.

“From my experiences over the last couple of decades, I’ve observed that folks tend to have a less stressful and more worry free retirement when they don’t have the burden of debt in their life. Which is why I believe your ultimate goal should be to own your home free and clear at or before retirement,” remarked Brian.

The two most common objections to making extra mortgage payments, as articulated in the article, are “If I do that I’m going to lose valuable tax deductions,” and “mortgage money is cheap. Why shouldn’t I just keep my mortgage and keep the money that I would have used to pay the mortgage off invested in a higher returning investment? Then the difference, or the spread, is mine to keep.”

Brian goes on to tackle each of these issues as well as offer his thoughts on whether paying off your mortgage early is right for you. “If you have enough non-retirement money available, we think it makes sense to seriously consider using some of it to pay off your mortgage and own your home free and clear,” wrote Brian.
